Welcome, David Young!

We’re very pleased to welcome David Young as a client of Transatlantic.

David Young published two novels in his twenties and wrote a series of award-winning plays (Fire, Glenn, Inexpressible Island, No Great Mischief, Clout), which were widely produced in Canada and abroad. He was a founding director of both The Writers’ Trust of Canada and the Griffin Poetry Prize.

Currently on offer, his début novel, Field of Vision employs an artfully-constructed plot that weaves together the lives of its eclectic protagonists. It opens with a group of strangers who have come to an isolated cabin in the New Mexican desert for the rare chance to encounter the Field of Vision, an enigmatic art installation, which consists of a vast grid of lightning rods, and is said to induce life-changing experiences, fantastical coincidences, and harmonious synchronicities in the lives of those who engage with it. The experience the group shared during that single night in the desert will intertwine their futures in ways they cannot yet imagine. With razor-sharp social satire contrasted with serious philosophical interrogation about how to truly see and become one’s best self; with themes of the power of art, nature, and story, the destructiveness of addictions, and how love can ruin, redeem, and heal, Young has unleashed his truly singular voice to write Field of Vision.

David Young lives in Toronto, and in recent years, has worked extensively on HIV/AIDS interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa. He is represented by Marilyn Biderman. Welcome, David!
