We’re honoured to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge by sharing Sigmund Brouwer‘s enlightening interview with TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin discussing his book INNOCENT HEROES: Stories of Animals in the First World War. World War I invoked an unprecedented war effort in Canada and often overlooked is the contribution of animals to the war. Horses, dogs, cats and many more animals played a substantial role in WWI including in the victory at Vimy Ridge. In INNOCENT HEROES, Sigmund uses the stories of these war animals as a tool to educate children about war and Vimy Ridge.
