Penguin Random House Canada has acquired North American English rights to The Only Café, the next novel from Scotiabank Giller Prize-winning author Linden MacIntyre. The Only Café explores a son’s search for the truth about his father’s disappearance five years after he went missing. It leads him from contemporary Toronto to the Middle East, to the war on terror, and to the massacre at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. Publication is scheduled for August, 2017. The deal was done by Shaun Bradley of the Transatlantic Agency, with Anne Collins. The book will appear under the Random House Canada imprint.
Carol Off, award-winning author and host of CBC Radio’s As It Happens, will publish a new work of nonfiction with Random House Canada in the spring of 2017. When Home Won’t Let You Stay is a multi-faceted exploration of the international refugee experience. As a journalist, Off documents the harrowing and often grinding journey that refugees and their families face. But at its heart, this is a more personal narrative. It is the story of Asadullah Aryubwal and his family – refugees from Afghanistan, personally sponsored by Off – and their eight year journey to move from one side of the globe to the other, all in an effort to find safe harbour and a new place to call “home.” The deal was arranged jointly by Anne Collins and Pamela Murray at Random House Canada with Shaun Bradley.
