Transatlantic Agency is a vibrant and creative community of literary agents in Canada and the United States who sell into more than thirty countries around the world.
Originally founded in 1993 as an agency representing Canadian children’s authors and illustrators, Transatlantic was one of the first agencies in North America to understand the international potential of the growing children’s and young adult market. Quickly establishing itself as the dominant agency for children’s authors and illustrators in Canada, Transatlantic expanded into the United States with an international children’s list that includes such award-winning authors as Clare Vanderpool, winner of the Newbery Medal and a Printz Honor Book recipient and Teresa Toten and Caroline Pignat, both winners of recent Governor General’s Awards for Children’s Literature, as well as bestselling children’s authors, Eric Walters and Sharon Siamon, both of whom have sold over a million copies of their books. The agency also handles a select number of award-winning children’s illustrators such as Wallace Edwards, Governor General’s Award winner, and Andrew Larsen, CBC Fan Choice Award 2014.
Transatlantic’s adult division was opened in 1999 and now has seven agents covering a wide variety of genres in both Canada and the United States. Linden MacIntyre, winner of the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and the late A.S.A Harrison, author of the international bestseller, The Silent Wife, have regularly appeared on the New York Times and Globe & Mail bestseller lists, and many other award-winning authors such as Kathleen Winter, Shauna Singh Baldwin, Claire Holden Rothman, Suzanne Desrochers and Russell Wangersky, have established Transatlantic as a major force in adult fiction and non-fiction in Toronto, New York and London.
Since 2004, the agency has handled international rights sales for a number of quality independent publishers, including Orca Book Publishers, Drawn & Quarterly, Islandport Press and Grass Roots Press.
The Transatlantic Agency represents over 250 authors with agents in Canada and in the United States working with our co-agents in 28 foreign-language territories and film agents in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles.
