Bernice Friesen

friesenbernicebwBernice Friesen began her creative life as a visual artist but has been writing since the age of 12. The title story of her first book, The Seasons are Horses, won the Vicky Metcalf Award for Best Young Adult Short Story in Canada. Her first novel, The Book of Beasts, was one of the top five first fictions in 2007 in the Toronto Globe and Mail, and was short-listed for the Rogers Writers Trust Fiction Prize. Born in Saskatchewan, she has lived in England and New Zealand, and now lives in British Columbia’s Gulf Islands. She she runs an exhibition blog showing pieces of visual art and intellectual adventures. You might see her wearing these objects.
