We are proud to share that Elisabeth de Mariaffi’s debut literary thriller THE DEVIL YOU KNOW (HarperCollins Canada; Simon & Schuster USA), Sigal Samuel’s novel THE MYSTICS OF MILE END (Freehand Books; William Morrow & Company), and Leslie Vryenhoek’s LEDGER OF THE OPEN HAND (Breakwater Books) are among 14 Canadian books that have been longlisted for the 2017 International DUBLIN Literary Award!
Set in the early 90’s, THE DEVIL YOU KNOW is about a rookie reporter assigned to the Paul Bernardo serial killer investigation, whose memories and personal research into the murder of her childhood best friend bring danger right back to her doorstep.
THE MYSTICS OF MILE END by Sigal Samuel weaves together four distinct voices to tell the story of the dysfunctional Meyer family, living in Mile End, a home to hipsters and Hasidic Jews, as they process grief and loss which leads the daughter Samara into a dangerous mystical obsession.
LEDGER OF THE OPEN HAND looks at the intimate power of money and emotional debt through the eyes of a woman trying to grab hold of her own life.
The International Dublin Literary Award, managed by Dublin City Council’s library service, offers a prize of €100,000 to the author of the winning book. This years longlist consists of 147 nominees.
The shortlist will be revealed on April 11, 2017 and the winner will be announced on June 21, 2017.
