Three Transatlantic clients have been shortlisted for the Seventh Annual Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize! The Prize was established to bring recognition to Canadian literary talent in three categories: Nonfiction, Literary Fiction and a rotating Genre Fiction category, which is Mystery this year. The winners will be announced June 22, 2021.

Field Notes From a Pandemic by Ethan Lou (McClelland & Stewart) has been nominated in the Nonfiction Category. In a book equal parts travelogue and pandemic guide, the journalist Ethan Lou examines the societal effects of COVID-19 and takes us on a mesmerizing journey around a world that will never be the same. Ethan is represented by Rob Firing.

Dead Mom Walking by Rachel Matlow (Penguin Canada) is also nominated in the Nonfiction Category. The national bestseller details the relationship between Rachel Matlow and her mother after cancer diagnosis. Rachel is represented by Samantha Haywood.

Aftershock by Alison Taylor (HarperCollins) has been nominated in the Literary Fiction Category. Nightmares still haunt Chloe thirteen years after a fatal tragedy led to the disintegration of her family. Mother and daughter will need to address old secrets and the emotional impact they have wrought before they can reconcile with each other, and, finally, with themselves. Alison is represented by Samantha Haywood.
