Rachel Wada (artist for FROM THE TOPS OF THE TREES) will illustrate SHIZUE’S PATH, written by Mark Sakamoto (Canada Reads-winning author of FORGIVENESS) to be published by HarperCollins Canada, with associate editor Yashaswi Kesanakurthy editing. This debut picture book, based on the author’s family history, follows the river of Shizue’s life: from her identity as a Japanese-Canadian girl, through the targeted and systemic oppression she faces in WWII Canada, and to the message of compassion that Shizue adopts in every aspect of her life after. Amy Tompkins represented Rachel Wada and Sakamoto was represented by Michael Levine at Westwood Creative Artists the deal for world rights.
