Designed to showcase the diversity of Black Excellence across disciplines and professions, our Afrocentric speakers’ series called Speak on It! aims to acknowledge and appreciate the plurality of Black expertise and experiences. In this vein, We have invited the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean to close out Black History Month and the Robbins-Ollivier speakers’ series.

Michaëlle Jean was appointed Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada in 2005; the first Black woman to reach the highest constitutional office in the country, a function she served with extraordinary dedication for a five-year term.
A seasoned stateswoman and diplomat, her words serve to convene goodwill everywhere in the multilateral sphere, in every UN forum, from New York to Geneva, all the way to the Security Council, as well as within the European Union, the European Parliament, the OECD, the African Union.
The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, is jointly represented by Léonicka Valcius and Carolyn Forde.

This event is a part of the Robbins-Ollivier Speak on It! speakers series where we celebrate Black excellence and create spaces for the Black Western community to come together. Get a chance to meet Matthew and listen to his favourite excerpts from his debut novel, Until We Break!

Matthew Dawkins has always had a passion for storytelling and today, he uses this passion to fuel his career, create award-winning stories and promote a tight-knit community of online writers. Online, Matthew is a 2018 Watty Award Winner for his debut novel, Wicked, Wild, Wonderful. Having amassed over 150,00 reads on Wattpad, Matthew prides himself on crafting prose and poetry that interrogate the world around us and offers new explorations of the relationship we have with society.
Matthew is represented by Léonicka Valcius.
