English Canada rights to Jasmeen A. Siddiqui’s debut upmarket novel THE FIRST AFTER, a tender coming-of-age post-love story centered on Anaa, a young aspiring poet living abroad in Portugal who finds herself caught between her old life and her hard-won new life when her ex-boyfriend and first love, Ben, visits her in Lisbon for a dreamy and dizzying week, pitched as for fans of Normal People and Richard Linklater’s The Before Trilogy, to Sarah Jackson of Random House Canada, for publication in Spring 2026.
Jasmeen A. Siddiqui studied creative writing at Western University, where she won the Lillian Kroll Prize for Creative Writing, and has since explored various mediums for her endless stream of ideas. She has worked as a journalist and has had short stories and poetry published in places like The Windsor Review, The Quilliad, and Symposium, as well as academic work published by The Undergraduate Awards. Her feature-length screenplay for The First After was a Quarter-finalist in the Your Script Produced! contest, Top 25% in the Launch Pad Feature Competition, and an official selection of Nostos Screenwriting Retreat. Across these varying mediums, she seeks to find and tell stories that illuminate the fantastic, terrible, hilarious, and high-stakes worlds of our normal little lives.
Jasmeen is represented by Amanda Orozco and Lisa Rambert.
Congratulations, Jasmeen!
