
Kit Pearson has been honoured with the George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award for her remarkable literary contributions in BC!
Renowned author, Kit has earned numerous accolades throughout her career, including the Governor General’s Award for English-language children’s literature (1997) and the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence (2014). In 2019, she was appointed to the Order of Canada.
Pearson’s work, praised for its thorough research, captivating narratives, and imaginative subjects from across Canada, has won prestigious awards such as the Canadian Library Association Book of the Year for Children Award and the Mr. Christie’s Book Award. She is also a dedicated member of the children’s writing community, co-founding the Children’s Writers & Illustrators of BC to support and connect fellow creators.
In her acceptance speeches, she’s emphasized the importance of recognizing children’s literature on par with adult fiction, noting that the struggles of a children’s writer are no different from those of any novelist.
