KJ Aiello (she/them) is an award-winning writer and author. Their debut book, The Monster and the Mirror: Mental Illness, Magic, and the Stories We Tell (ECW Press, 2024) is shortlisted for the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize (2025) and is a CBC Best Nonfiction pick (2024). Their essay, ‘Who Gets to Be Mentally Ill?’ published in The Walrus won Gold in Best Personal Essay in the 2023 Digital Publishing Awards. Their essays and op-eds have appeared in The Walrus, the Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, THIS Magazine, and elsewhere.
