Ward Hawkes of Doubleday Canada has acquired Canadian English rights to two-time Scotiabank Giller Prizer winner MG Vassanji’s THE APPARITION an ambitious, allegorical alternate history set during the twilight of the Delhi Sultanate in the late 13th century that unfolds like a fable, exploring faith, fear, and power through a poetic lens. With echoes of José Saramago’s Blindness, Salman Rushdie’s Grimus, and George Orwell’s Animal Farm, The Apparition follows court historian and Sufi poet Amir Hassan as he witnesses the rise of a mysterious celestial object—part omen, part myth—that throws the kingdom into a state of religious paranoia and political violence. Publication is planned for Fall 2026. The second book in this two book deal is SEARCHING FOR SITA. The deal was arranged by Carolyn Forde at Transatlantic Agency.
MG is represented by Carolyn Forde.
Congratulations, MG!
