Hilary Filkins is an educator and writer whose work explores resilience, identity, and the fierce bonds that hold people together. Her gritty, darkly humorous YA novel, about a biracial teen and her mother navigating a zombie apocalypse in the outskirts of Boston was a finalist for the 2025 prestigious Boston Public Library Writer-in-Residence Fellowship.

Based in Massachusetts, Hilary draws from nearly two decades in public education as a Teacher, Department Chair, and now Assistant Principal to tell stories grounded in real emotional landscapes and complex human relationships. A lifelong storyteller, she views fiction as both refuge and reckoning, a way to honor the love and survival she has witnessed in her family, community, and work. Hilary earned her BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of Arizona, an MA in Teaching from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational & Organizational Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania.

Hilary is represented by Elizabeth Bennett.
