Described as a “Canadian Gem” by Indigo, THE GALLERY OF LOST SPECIES follows Edith who, after spotting a unicorn while hiking with her father and sister, spends the next ten years of her life chasing the impossible. Her older sister, Vivienne is forced by their mother to participate in beauty pageants, while Edith follows in her father’s footsteps by studying coins and art.  When Edith and her sister find themselves sharing a love for geology student, Liam, Edith’s sister, suffering from addiction, weaves in and out of her life, while Edith is torn between wanting to help her sister and trying to win Liam’s heart.

Nina Berkhout is the author of five poetry collections, most recently Elseworlds (Seraphim Editions), which received the 2013 Archibald Lampman Award for the year’s best poetry. Her earlier work has been shortlisted for THIS magazine’s Great Canadian Literary Hunt, The Archibald Lampman Award and the John Hirsch Award. She currently lives in Ottawa.
