Beyond the Pale cover imageWe are thrilled to announce that BEYOND THE PALE: Folklore, Family, and the Mystery of Our Hidden Genes (HarperCollins) by Emily Urquhart has been longlisted for the 2016 BC National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction, which carries one of Canada’s largest book prizes!

BEYOND THE PALE follows the author’s journey following the birth of her daughter, who is diagnosed with albinism, across North America and parts of Eastern Africa to discover how we explain human differences by examining a wide range of folklore and cultural beliefs.

The BC National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction, which offers a $40,000 prize, is presented by the British Columbia Achievement Foundation, a foundation that celebrates excellence in the arts, humanities, enterprise, and community service. This year, the 12th year in which this award will be presented, 137 books by 35 publishers were emily-urquhartselected nominated by the prize jury, which includes Anne Giardini, Richard Gwyn, and Hal Wake.
