Naomi Canale is a writer and multidisciplinary artist drawn most to visual storytelling through children’s books and printmaking. Originally a self-taught artist always working with a mix of mediums; some of which she used for sculptures, large installations, murals, artist books, and paintings. She entered college for a degree in the arts after being diagnosed with dyslexia as an adult. The themes she uses throughout her work tie into community, memory, and lived experiences. For illustration, she uses traditional materials like colored pencils, pens, watercolor, and lately she’s experimenting with monoprint. She has also mentored with some wonderful authors and illustrators through The Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators. Her works have been shown on Magnolia Network’s Public Artist and Storefront Stories (including streaming platform HBO Max, Apple TV, and Discovery+), Fabled Bookshop, Artprenticeship through Creative Waco, Art Center Waco, 507 Gallery, Martin Museum, Rochester Public Library, and Baylor Libraries. When she’s not making art, she works in a library and letterpress lab.
