Transatlantic congratulates Kathleen Ernst whose novel MEET CAROLINE, was
awarded the Tofte/Wright Children’s Literature Award by the Council for Wisconsin Writers. MEET CAROLINE is the first book in the 2012 American Girl historical series about Caroline Abbott. The stories are based around the War of 1812. As the War of 1812 begins, so does the story of Caroline’s bravery.
“A story about a 9-year-old girl living on the shore of Lake Ontario in 1812, very near what was then Upper Canada. This book has distinct characters that are additive to the story along with a likeable, smart and slightly headstrong protagonist – a nice role model for young girl readers. The descriptions are good, the dialog is believable, and there is lots of action and tension. Meet Caroline is an example of well-written, compelling historical fiction that can be enjoyed by target audiences as well as older readers.”
