The National Media Awards Foundation (NMAF) is a bilingual charity dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism and visual creation. Since 1977, the Foundation has been awarding prizes to journalists, writers, photographers, illustrators and other professionals of the press, who are distinguished by the quality of their work.

Leanne Betasamosake Simpson has been nominated for the Issue Grand Prix for her work on the16th edition of Nouveau Projet. Leanne is represented by Marilyn Biderman.

Eternity Martis and Rachel Giese have been nominated for editing the Xtra article “He survived Chechnya’s LGBTQ purge. Now, he’s ready to tell his story,” by Arvin Joaquin for Best Emerging Writer. Eternity is represented by Stephanie Sinclair and Rachel is represented by Samantha Haywood.

Emily Urquhart has been nominated for Best Essay for “Chimera” in Room Magazine. Emily is represented by Samantha Haywood.

Rachel Giese has also been nominated under Feature Writing for editing the article “Inside GSAs, where kids learn to ‘talk gay’” for Xtra.

Liz Harmer has been nominated for Best Fiction for “The Right to Grapple” in The Malahat Review. Liz is represented by Samantha Haywood.

Under Personal Journalism, Trina Moyles has been nominated for writing “Herd Memory” in Alberty Views, Joshua Whitehead has been nominated for “My Auntie is a Wolverine” in Grain and Emily Urquhart has been nominated for “Chimera” in Room Magazine. Trina is represented by Marilyn Biderman and Joshua is represented by Stephanie Sinclair.

And under Profiles, Trevor Cole has been nominated for “Masi Ujiri: Nice Guy Finishes First,” which was published in Toronto Life. Trevor is represented by Carlyn Forde.
