Elizabeth Patterson at Beaming Books has acquired Hocus Focus by Sylv Chiang, illustrated by Riddhi Deshpande, a picture book scheduled for publication in the fall of 2027. Kai has been having a hard time at school because following the rules is not easy. When their dad gives them a magic wand and some spells to stay on track, Kai is excited to try again. But Kai’s not so good at aiming that wand, so while those around Kai benefit from the magic, Kai manages to get through the day using only the words from the spells as reminders of some powerful strategies. Amy Tompkins at Transatlantic Agency represented the author and Amanda Hendon at Advocate Art represented the illustrator in a deal for world rights.
