
Annick MacAskill is the author of four full-length poetry collections, including Shadow Blight (Gaspereau Press, 2022), winner of the Governor General’s Award and a best Canadian poetry of 2022 pick by CBC Books, and Votive (Gaspereau Press, 2024). Her fiction has appeared in Canthius, Plenitude, The Ampersand Review, and EVENT Magazine. In 2024, her short story “Best” was longlisted for the CBC Short Story Prize, and in 2025, her story “The Pale” earned an honourable mention at the National Magazine Awards. This year, she won Prairie Fire’s McNally Robinson Short Fiction Prize and was shortlisted for The Malahat Review’s Open Seasons Fiction Award. She lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her first novel, Island of Deer, is currently on submission.
