Tracy Wan is a writer, brand voice strategist and scent consultant. She writes about food, culture, olfaction, and what the sensory world can teach us about ourselves. 

For over a decade, she’s worked as a writer and creative director in advertising and branding, where she created award-winning campaigns and developed brand identities for businesses of every size and industry, from Fortune 500 companies to artisan perfumers. For this work, she’s been recognized by Canadian and international award shows such as the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, The One Show, and the London International Awards. In that time, she’s also contributed nonfiction writing to publications such as The New York Times MagazineThe AtlanticThe Globe and Mail, CBC, Buzzfeed, Chatelaine, and FASHION Magazine. 

She studied the art of perfumemaking at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in France and through the Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles. In 2020, she published Notes (YAP), a book of essays on smells. Since 2021, she has been creating content with the mission of making fragrance more accessible, through the TikTok account @invisiblestories.

She was raised in central China, the American south and the French-Canadian north, where she earned a BA with Honours in English (Cultural Studies) from McGill University. She now lives and works in Toronto.
